Super Troops

Troops are a very important part of your castle, as you need them to gather resources, attack monsters and defend your castle. So understanding these characters and their quirks can only be of benefit to your overall play and success. However, as a great Lion has been quoted to say "Troops are replaceable", and they will only get better with your growth and research.

Troop Basics

You have 4 types of troops that you can train and each have advantages and disadvantages depending on how they are handled.

Troop Stats

Each type of troop comes with 8 stats than can be very useful, if you understand what they mean. Each of these can be improved by doing the appropriate research and monarch gear (you will know if you have improved a stat by the colour change from white / baseline to green / improved).
1. ATTACK - this battle stat gives a measure of the damage you deal your opponent. Mounted troops offer the best attack stats, which is why they are so good for monster kills.
2. DEFENSE - this battle stat reduces the damage you receive from your opponent. Mounted also have good defence, but don't compare to ground troops who are far better.
3. HP - this battle stat allows your troops to take more damage before they are killed. Again Mounted and ground are the leaders in this buff.
4. RANGE - this battle stat refer to how far away the troop can attack from and it is advantageous to know this for battlefields. Siege excel in this area, flowed by ranged (as you would expect). It means that these guys get to start attacking earlier and have a higher frequency of attacks.
5. SPEED - this battle stat refers to how far a troop can move per 'turn'. Naturally mounted troops are the able to cover the largest distance, by far - horsepower, but Ground troops are also good movers.
6. LOAD - this is not a battle stat. It is an indication of how much your troops can carry when resource gathering. Siege offer the best load of all the types, by far.
7. UPKEEP - this refers to how much of your food these troops will consume over time and given the chance. Mounted do have the highest upkeep but there really isn't much if a difference between them all - they all eat too much.
8. POWER - this stat will add to your monarch overall power, which is why your power drop following an attack and high wounded rate. Healing the troops will restore this power, at the cost of the resources required. Troop death will result in loss of power until those troops are replaced.

Each of these stats increases with increasing the increasing level of troops. So keeping up with your research will mean you continue to produce more powerful troops each time you train some more. But don't be fooled into dismissing lower level troops as they are still useful to you. Low level seige for instance, can still have better load stats than higher level ranged troops, so are still better for gathering.

Troop Training

The monarch competition today is all about Troop training. This is a pretty straight forward task but here are some little tips that can help you earn more points.

1. Add your best training crown to your monarch. This will decrease the training time required.
2. Army camps are responsible for determining the number of troops you can train at a time. Increasing their level will increase the number of troops you can train at one time.
3. If you are going to maximise your training, make sure you send all your other troops out gathering. Training requires a lot of resources.
4. Train your highest level troops. These may take longer than the lower levels, but you will earn many more points.
5. If you can, place an appropriate general on duty at your training stations before you train to get better training benefits.
6. There is always the option of using speed-ups if you are in a hurry.
7. Training research can increase training speed. This is arguably a better way of increasing training speed than using up your speed-ups.

I would just like to point out however, that lower level players are not encouraged to develop large armies, but rather focus on building and research. Resources are better used for these activities. Wait until your keep is level 20 or above before you consider maximising your troops.

I suggest just training enough troops to obtain the rewards. Remember that your troops will consume the food you have available, so be sure to store it in the warehouse unless you are willing to risk it being all gone overnight. Of course with the Battle of Constantinople coming, you may wish to train more, but just remember you will have to be able ghost them all too.
