General's Skill Books

Adding skills and skill books to your Generals is an important part of developing your Generals strengths. Check out the available skills, how best to add them and what you will get for your efforts.

Skill Books

As you would know, skill books can be applied to any general, however as with the previous messages about generals, my recommendation is to keep the skill books for your best ones, the gold and purple historical's.

There are four levels of skill books
1. Purple (level 1) books - these will give on average a 10-15% buff increase (depending on what the buff is). They cost 3000 gems in the research academy bookshop.
2. Orange (level 2) books - 15-25% buff increase, at a cost of 5000 gems.
3. Yellow (level 3) books - 20-35% buff increase, and a cost of 8000 gems.
4. Red (level 4) books - 25-45% buff increase, and these cannot be bought. They can only be compiled from composing 10 skill book pages. You can occasionally get these pages from event rewards but they are easiest to obtain by disassembling other skill books (level 1 book gives 1 page, level 2 book gives 2 pages etc).

 

There are a few rules when it comes to adding skills to generals.
1. You will always have a successful addition of the first skill book. Unfortunately, the second skill book has a 50% success rate and the third has a 25% successful addition rate. A failure in the addition means that you will not fill an empty skill slot but will overwrite one of the existing skills.
2. A higher level skill book will always overwrite the lower version, so it is not possible to increase the buff by 'layering' the skills. It is also not possible to have multiples of  the same skill applied. This especially applies to the gold generals who come with an already  applied skill.
There is a lot of information about what skills are best applied to what general, and what skills are best for the various roles your general can have, but unless you want this message to go on forever, I will leave that to you to research or alternatively, ask me directly about the specific general or role you are interested in.

I do want to leave you with a big tip I discovered about the level 4 books and how to make the most of your level 4 skills. Essentially, the best chance you have of adding a level 4 skills is to have the  level 3 version of the skills already in place. This way the level 4 will override the lower skill book without too much bother. If you have blank skill spots with a level 4 skills then rule number 1 applies (addition of new skill books may overwrite your level 4 which would be a big loss of time and effort).
